The First Storm

The First Storm
Context
Roz is perched on the mountain when a dark storm wall arrives, as ferocious as the one that sunk the cargo ship.
What Happens
Rain, wind, lightning, and mudslides roar down the mountain. Roz tumbles helplessly in a mudslide, clinging to a pine tree until the storm passes.
Why It Matters
Roz learns that mountains are not safe in storm season and that nature can overpower even a mechanical body.
The Cliff Wall Falls

The Cliff Wall Falls
Context
Months later, Roz descends a forest cliff while rocks are loosened by spring rain. A stone block breaks away, sending her toppling.
What Happens
A landslide of rocks crushes a goose nest and kills the parents. Roz grabs a branch and watches the rocks pass, realizing she has become an agent of destruction.
Why It Matters
This environmental danger transforms into a moral crisis, tying the natural world's chaos to personal responsibility.
The First Hibernation

The First Hibernation
Context
Alone and with no need to move, Roz sits in the Nest and slowly powers down. The winter snow falls, and her body freezes, but she remains safe.
What Happens
A beam of sunlight in late winter recharges her battery. She wakes to find her roof collapsed and the world buried in snow, with frozen corpses around her.
Why It Matters
The hibernation is a hibernation of the body, but not of the mind. Her awakening sparks a new mission to save animals from the cold.
The Brutal Winter

The Brutal Winter
Context
The winter turns disastrously cold, with record snowfalls. Many animals, even hibernators, are forced out of their burrows by the cold.
What Happens
Roz builds powerful fires, then expands her lodge network to shelter dozens of animals. Still, she uncovers frozen weasels, mice, and deer in the snow.
Why It Matters
The cold becomes an enemy as real as predators. It exposes the limitation of Roz's strength and the necessity of community.
Spring Thaw and Renewal

Spring Thaw and Renewal
Context
As the winter loosens its grip, melting snow reveals the corpses of animals that died and, simultaneously, the first green shoots of spring.
What Happens
Roz emerges from her lodges, walks through the muddy island, and greets the survivors. The garden begins to bloom over the graves, mixing death and beauty.
Why It Matters
The thaw teaches Roz that destruction and creation are woven together. It gives her the philosophical bedrock she needs to face the RECOs later.
